Playing Poker Games Rules

As a former professional poker player, I have played many poker games rules including Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Seven Card Stud, Five Card Draw, and Omaha Hi-Lo. While all of these games are very different, they all follow the same basic rules.

The most important rule to remember in a poker game is that you never bet more than you can afford to lose. I’ve seen many a player who sees a great hand, such as a card straight draw, but who plays for something less and loses. When playing poker, you need to be able to profitably handle losses.

Secondly, never bet to much against opponents who have more than half their cards in their hand or face down. Sometimes the best part of your hand is the suited card. If it’s the best suited card, it’s a bonus. If it’s not, then you just lost the whole hand.

Also, make sure you’re aware of what cards your opponents are holding. Some players who are sitting next to you may hold the exact same cards as you do, yet they may have more money in their pocket. If you have to guess on a hand, it’s not a good guess and it doesn’t hold up in a court of law.

Finally, you can’t bluff with a full house. A small raise and a full house, no matter how large or small, can cause you to lose your pot all together. If you’re the player who raises and gets called, then you lost the pot.

And don’t forget about third sets and time out play. One of the basic poker games rules is that you should never call a bet when you have the option to fold. Third sets can be very frustrating when you are already down by two hands or more. It can be almost impossible to get ahead when you are dealing with both players for the majority of the game.

Finally, don’t forget about the time out. As long as you can be completely sure that you won’t win the hand, you should always have the time out as a poker game goes along.

You can use these simple rules to play a full range of poker games. While all of these rules may sound easy, they can be very difficult to live by, but if you follow them you will most likely see excellent results.
